"Look up, Sunbear!" features a playful Sunbear, native to the Southeast Asia region, balancing a apple on its nose, symbolising the importance of balancing play and education.
The sculpture carries the symbolism of strength, courage, wisdom and a love for nature. Representing YMCA’s efforts to strengthen children and youth, imbuing in them courage, wisdom, appreciation for nature and providing them with learning opportunities. Sited at YMCA @ One Orchard, a social enterprise accommodation, the building becomes its sanctuary for youth much like a bear’s cave.
This captivating sculpture by artist tobyato was inspired during his one week artist residency at YMCA @ One Orchard as part of celebration of YMCA Education’s 120th year anniversary in 2023.
